Raising a Reader

A love of reading is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child.  We all know it is important to read with our children but do we realise just what an impact reading can have on our children´s lives?

This informative talk will demonstrate:

  • How parents can instil a life long love of reading in their child
  • Clear and easy-to-follow examples of how to get the most value and joy from a read-aloud session with your child
  • Tools for reading, including phonics
  • List of ´Must reads´ for children

Sixth Form Options and Opportunities – Focus Group

As we discussed at the Voice of Parents’ feedback, we are keen to share views and expertise on the future of Sixth Form Provision here at TEMS. There will be a number of TEMS and Cognita staff at this event with expertise in the 3 systems of International Baccalaureate, A levels and Bachillerato as well as university requirements and options.

New technologies: games and networks

Specialists of the Addiction Prevention Service of the Ayuntamiento de Madrid will give a talk on new technologies for teenagers. They will share a vision on the role of families, the types of risks our children face and some advice on how to deal with this situation.

Car Safety – Rear facing carseats​

This talk will explain how to protect babies and children under 12 in our vehicles, what is the difference between an approved system and a safe one, how to install a car seat, what precautions should we take when choosing a child restraint system, etc.

– Fernando López, CEO of Lesión Zero Association and father of the little Gabriel, who died after traveling in a forward-facing car chair.

This talk is aimed at parents and staff. It focuses on analysing the ways in which the changes in the teenage brain affect their responses.

Emotional Education 

Through this workshop we would like to share with families a first approach to our concept of emotional intelligence: a set of skills and attitudes that allow us to express our emotional states in a balanced way, understand the emotions of others and be able to use this information to guide our behaviour within the context of social relations.

We will look after children in the garden for parents who wish to attend.

Following our last Parent Talk about Emotional Education delivered in the previous term, we would like to invite you to our next meeting. We will share with you:

  • The story as a fundamental tool in emotional education
  • Resources to manage fears, anger, tantrums and frustration
  • Practical mindfulness exercises

We will look after children in the garden for parents who wish to attend.
