In the Junior Department we have had lots of special days and activities this term.
We celebrated World Space Week October 4th through October 10th. During this week, we learned about space exploration, made model planets, learned interesting facts about the solar system, and even learned how astronauts wash their hair in space with no gravity!
On October 21st we had the chance to talk to schools in other countries through Cognita Calling. Each class paired up with a class in a Cognita school somewhere in the world, and we talked to each other on Skype. It was a great opportunity to learn about schools in other countries!
On November 20th we celebrated International Children’s Day. Everyone came to school dressed in blue, and we learned about children’s rights and how to protect them.
Years 4 and 5 participated in a special maths workshop on December 3rd, 4th and 5th. They used iPads and an app to solve word problems and develop mathematical reasoning skills.
There have been several excursions this term as well. Year 3 went to the theatre, Year 4 to the Planetarium, Year 5 to the Archaeological Museum, and Year 6 to the African Museum.
Finally, the Juniors participated in Christmas Around the World by designing e-cards describing the Christmas traditions in Spain. These were exchanged with students in a Cognita school in another country, so we could learn about their Christmas traditions.
