School History

TEMS was founded as an infant school by Milagros Alonso Ortiz in 1973. The first school was located in a small house in Avenida Alfonso XIII in the centre of the city.

The Montessori philosophy has always remained paramount to Milagros' approach to education. The school was a pioneer in Spain for this child-centred type of education.

The school is one of the pioneers as charter member of the "National Association of British Schools in Spain" (N.A.B.S.S.).

The "English Montessori School" SA was established, and continues to be the owner of the school with Milagros Alonso as the sole administrator as well as consultant/advisor to the school.

As the children grew and since parents were so pleased with the programme the school needed larger facilities. It has moved several times to accommodate this growth and is now permanently located in the residential community of Aravaca (Madrid).

This purpose-built school has, recently, added new facilities to accommodate the growth in population, enhance the already excellent academic and extra-curricular programme and meet the demands of the constantly changing educational needs of today's students.
